The Rotary Club of Kendal recently organised and ran their Youth Speaks Competition which featured four local schools, John Ruskin, Kirkbie Kendal, The Lakes School and Queen Katherine.

All schools gave outstanding performances with the winning team being The Lakes School with their talk on ‘Jealousy’. They  also won the best ‘Chair’ and ‘Vote of Thanks’ categories.

Their team of Beth Jakins, Meghan Guy and Jenny Holden will now go on to compete in the district final to be held next year. The best individual speaker was Angus Pinkney from Kirkbie Kendal who entertained us with an intriguing talk entitled, ‘How does airbrushing in the media affect teenage perceptions of body image’.
