The speakers at the meeting of Kendal Rotary Club on 24th September were Linda Ngamlama and Martin Coombs. Linda is the Principal at ‘Amasango’ School in Grahamstown, South Africa and Martin is a trustee and volunteer.
They gave a presentation telling the story of the school and how it caters for the extreme poor. As a special, needs school, it provides an education which encompasses the normal curriculum as well as many other vocational and non-vocational subjects.
The children (called learners) are given porridge and bread, peanut butter and jam for breakfast and provided with a cooked meal at lunchtime. (More info at www.amasango.org.uk)
