The speaker at the meeting of Kendal Rotary Club on 30th July was Professor Brian Wilson who gave a lecture entitled ‘Barrow’s Boys and other Polar Explorers’.

The talk, as its name implies, told the story of Sir John Barrow and other famous explorers who were determined to find ‘The North West Passage’. They were all unsuccessful and in many cases it cost them their lives, although the first passage, which took three years to complete, was finally done by the famous explorer Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole.
