Blood Bikes
The speaker at the meeting of the Rotary Club of Kendal on 5th December was Philip Russell from the North West Blood Bikes charity who gave an illustrated presentation on their work.
The organisation which was set up in 2013 now has over 400 riders who, either riding their own bikes or when qualified using the charities bikes, to deliver blood, samples, records and anything which can safely be transported on a motorcycle.
This service, which is done completely free of charge, last year saved the NHS £15,000. The area covered includes the South Lakes area and down into Lancashire as well as liaising with other similar organisations when deliveries to other parts of the country are necessary.
