The speaker at the meeting of the Rotary Club of Kendal on 7th November was Philip Hoyle, one of their own members. Since 2014, Philip has been responsible for overseeing a project to help a village in Nepal (Khiraule) to provide recourses for their local school.
Over £30,000 has been raised and allowed the school to have proper sanitation, a clean water supply, repairs and extensions to the existing building as well as equipment and educational materials. He has been in touch since the recent disastrous earthquakes and he reported on how the village, although suffering substantial damage, is coping.
The next phase of the project is to help fund the building of a Community Hall at a cost of about £20,000.
